Consumers frequently associate the certification of timber and wood products with the subject of sustainability. This is an important aspect, but is a long way from being all that it is about. Sustainability extends to all areas of economic actions: Life-cycle assessments, responsibility for current and future generations, corporate social responsibility (CSR) are ultimately issues that characterise the German wood industry's special understanding of quality. The HDH brings together all the currently relevant sustainability aspects from engineering, science and research and coordinates industry-wide and industry-specific projects in workgroups. Work with the European umbrella associations is also shaped with regard to sustainability.
